What does NICET Fire Alarm Systems certification actually cost, level by level?
How this was collected
NICET is one national certifying body rather than fifty state boards, so the unit of comparison here is the level, not the state. This study covers six figures across five independent price points: the exam fee for each of the four NICET Fire Alarm Systems levels (I, II, III, and IV) and the single recertification fee NICET charges per subfield, which is the same amount at every level. Re-examination after a lapsed certification is deliberately not counted as a sixth price point, because it is charged at that level's own exam fee, already in the table. Figures come from NICET's own published program, policy, and FAQ pages plus the official page of Pearson VUE, the vendor NICET contracts to deliver its exams. Because nicet.org blocks automated requests outright, NICET's own pages were read as quoted verbatim by search engines rather than fetched directly, and each figure was only recorded once independent sources agreed on it.

| Item | Cost | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Level I exam fee Also what re-examination costs if a Level I certification lapses and has to be retaken, so this is one price point, not two. | $230 | NICET Fire Alarm Systems program page and Work Experience FAQ (nicet.org), cross-verified via Pearson VUE's official NICET testing-partner page since nicet.org blocks automated fetches |
| Level II exam fee Also what re-examination costs if a Level II certification lapses and has to be retaken, so this is one price point, not two. | $315 | NICET Fire Alarm Systems program page and Work Experience FAQ (nicet.org), cross-verified via Pearson VUE's official NICET testing-partner page |
| Level III exam fee Also what re-examination costs if a Level III certification lapses and has to be retaken, so this is one price point, not two. | $370 | NICET Fire Alarm Systems program page and Work Experience FAQ (nicet.org), cross-verified via Pearson VUE's official NICET testing-partner page |
| Level IV exam fee Also what re-examination costs if a Level IV certification lapses and has to be retaken, so this is one price point, not two. | $425 | NICET Fire Alarm Systems program page and Work Experience FAQ (nicet.org), cross-verified via Pearson VUE's official NICET testing-partner page |
| Recertification fee, per subfield One figure, not four: NICET runs a single 3-year, 90-CPD-point recertification system across Levels I to IV. | $215 | NICET Recertification / Policy 30 and CPD-points FAQ (nicet.org/about-us/policies, nicet.org/about-us/frequently-asked-questions/cpd-points, nicet.org/about-us/frequently-asked-questions/renewal-and-recertification-procedures), quoted via search-engine AI-overview extracts since nicet.org's WAF blocks direct fetch |
Limitations
- nicet.org runs a bot-blocking firewall that rejects automated requests, so no figure here was pulled from a rendered nicet.org page in this verification pass. Each one was cross-verified across NICET's own published text as quoted verbatim by search engines and against Pearson VUE's official NICET testing-partner page. Treat these as strong secondhand confirmations of NICET's own numbers, not as a direct read, and confirm anything you are about to pay against your NICET candidate record.
- These are NICET's own charges only. Application handling, rescheduling charges, reference material such as the NFPA 72 code book, training courses, and employer billing arrangements are outside the table, so a candidate's true out-of-pocket total is higher than any single number here.
- Re-examination after a lapse is charged at the level's own exam fee and is shown as a note on that row rather than a separate row, so the five price points below are independent and the average is not inflated by counting the same fee twice.
- NICET's own recertification policy text does not publish a fixed grace-period length or a reinstatement fee amount, so no reinstatement cost appears here. It is omitted rather than estimated.
- Fees change. Every row carries the date it was verified; if that date is old relative to your test window, check with NICET before budgeting.
